NEVER GIVE UP!

The first day of school our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn't already know. I stood up to look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder.

I turned around to find a wrinkled, little old lady beaming up at me with a smile that lit up her entire being.

She said, 'Hi handsome. My name is Rose. I'm eighty-seven years old. Can I give you a hug?'

I laughed and enthusiastically responded, 'Of course you may!' and she gave me a giant squeeze.

'Why are you in college at such a young, innocent age?' I asked.

She jokingly replied, 'I'm here to meet a rich husband, get married, and have a couple of kids...'

'No seriously,' I asked. I was curious what may have motivated her to be taking on this challenge at her age.

'I always dreamed of having a college education and now I'm getting one!' she told me.

After class we walked to the student union building and shared a chocolate milkshake.

We became instant friends. Every day for the next three months we would leave class together and talk nonstop. I was always mesmerized listening to this 'time machine' as she shared her wisdom and experience with me.

Over the course of the year, Rose became a campus icon and she easily made friends wherever she went. She loved to dress up and she reveled in the attention bestowed upon her from the other students. She was living it up..

At the end of the semester we invited Rose to speak at our football banquet. I'll never forget what she taught us. She was introduced and stepped up to the podium. As she began to deliver her prepared speech, she dropped her three by five cards on the floor.

Frustrated and a little embarrassed she leaned into the microphone and simply said, 'I'm sorry I'm so jittery. I gave up beer for Lent and this whiskey is killing me! I'll never get my speech back in order so let me just tell you what I know.'

As we laughed she cleared her throat and began, 'We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing.

There are only four secrets to staying young, being happy, and achieving success. You have to laugh and find humor every day. You've got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die.

We have so many people walking around who are dead and don't even know it!

There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up.

If you are nineteen years old and lie in bed for one full year and don't do one productive thing, you will turn twenty years old. If I am eighty-seven years old and stay in bed for a year and never do anything I will turn eighty-eight.

Anybody can grow older. That doesn't take any talent or ability. The idea is to grow up by always finding opportunity in change. Have no regrets.

The elderly usually don't have regrets for what we did, but rather for things we did not do. The only people who fear death are those with regrets.'

She concluded her speech by courageously singing 'The Rose.'

She challenged each of us to study the lyrics and live them out in our daily lives. At the year's end Rose finished the college degree she had begun all those years ago.

One week after graduation Rose died peacefully in her sleep.

Over two thousand college students attended her funeral in tribute to the wonderful woman who taught by example that it's never too late to be all you can possibly be.

MSG (Mono-Sodium Glutamate) - A SLOW POISON‏

i have to share this with you all. Up to u to decide if its true.

The food additive MSG (Mono-Sodium Glutamate) is a slow poison. MSG Hides behind 25 or more names, such as Natural Flavoring.' MSG is even in Your favorite coffee from Tim Horton's and Starbucks coffee shops!

I wondered if there could be an actual chemical causing the massive obesity epidemic and so did a friend of mine, John Erb. He was a research Assistant at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, and spent Years working for the government.

He made an amazing discovery while going through scientific journals for a book he was writing called "The Slow Poisoning of America."

In hundreds of studies around the world, scientists were creating Obese mice and rats to use in diet or diabetes test studies. No strain of rat or mice is naturally obese, so scientists have to create Them. They make these creatures morbidly obese by injecting them with MSG when they are first born.

The MSG triples the amount of insulin the pancreas creates, causing rats (and perhaps humans) to become obese. They even have a name for the Fat rodents they create: 'MSG -Treated Rats.'

When I heard this, I was shocked. I went into my kitchen and checked the cupboards and the refrigerator. MSG was in everything -- the Campbell 's Soups, the Hostess Doritos, the Lays flavored potato chips, Top Ramen, Betty Crocker Hamburger Helper, Heinz canned gravy, Swanson frozen Prepared meals, and Kraft salad dressings, especially the 'healthy low-fat' ones.

The items that didn't have MSG marked on the product label had Something called 'Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein,' which is just another Name for Monosodium Glutamate.

It was shocking to see just how many of the foods we feed our Children everyday are filled with this stuff. MSG is hidden under many Different names in order to fool those who read the ingredient list, so that They don't catch on.

(Other names for MSG are 'Accent, 'Aginomoto,''Natural Meat Tenderizer,' etc.)

But it didn't stop there.

When our family went out to eat, we started asking at the restaurants What menu items contained MSG. Many employees, even the managers, swore They didn't use MSG.

But when we ask for the ingredient list, which they grudgingly Provided, sure enough, MSG and Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein were everywhere.

Burger King, McDonald's, Wendy's, Taco Bell, every restaurant -- even The sit-down eateries like TGIF, Chili's, Applebee's, and Denny's -- use MSG In abundance.

Kentucky Fried Chicken seemed to be the WORST offender:

MSG was in every chicken dish, salad dressing. and gravy. No wonder I loved To eat that coating on the skin -- their secret spice was MSG!

So why is MSG in so many of the foods we eat?

Is it a preservative,Or a vitamin?

Not according to my friend John Erb.

In his book "The Slow Poisoning Of America", he said that MSG is added to food for the addictive effect it has on the human body. Even the propaganda website sponsored by the food manufacturers lobby Group supporting MSG explains that the reason they add it to food is to Make people eat more.

A study of the elderly showed that older people eat more of the foods That it is added to. The Glutamate Association lobbying group says eating More is a benefit to the elderly, but what does it do to the rest of us?

'Betcha can't eat [just] one,' takes on a whole new meaning where MSGIs concerned! And we wonder why the nation is overweight!

MSG manufacturers themselves admit that it addicts people to their Products. It makes people choose their product over others, and makes People eat more of it than they would if MSG wasn't added.

Not only is MSG scientifically proven to cause obesity, it is an addictive Substance. Since its introduction into the American food supply fifty years ago, MSG has been added in larger and larger doses to the pre-packaged meals, Soups, snacks, and fast foods we are tempted to eat everyday.

The FDA has set no limits on how much of it can be added to food. They claim it's safe to eat in any amount. But how can they claim it's safe When there are hundreds of scientific studies with titles like these:
'The monosodium glutamate (MSG) obese rat as a model for the study of Exercise in obesity.' Gobatto CA, Mello MA, Souza CT, Ribeiro IA. ResCommun Mol Pathol Pharmacol. 2002.

'Adrenalectomy abolishes the food-induced hypothalamic serotonin elease in both normal and monosodium glutamate-obese rats.' GuimaraesRB, Telles MM, Coelho VB, Mori C, Nascimento CM, Ribeiro. Brain Res Bull.2002 Aug

.'Obesity induced by neonatal monosodium glutamate treatment in pontaneously hypertensive rats: An animal model of multiple risk factors.'Iwase M, Yamamoto M, Iino K, Ichikawa K, Shinohara N, Yoshinari Fujishima.Hypertens Res. 1998 Mar.

'Hypothalamic lesion induced by injection of monosodium glutamate in Suckling period and subsequent development of obesity.' Tanaka K,Shimada M, Nakao K Kusunoki. Exp Neurol. 1978 Oct.

No, the date of that last study was not a typo; it was published in 1978.

Both the 'medical research community' and 'food manufacturers' haveKnown about the side effects of MSG for decades.

Many more of the studies mentioned in John Erb's book link MSG toDiabetes, migraines and headaches, autism, ADHD, and even Alzheimer's.

So what can we do to stop the food manufactures from dumping this Fattening and addictive MSG into our food supply and causing the obesityEpidemic we now see?

Several months ago, John Erb took his book and his concerns to one of The highest government health officials in Canada. While he was sitting in the government office, the official told him, 'Sure, I know how bad MSG is. I wouldn't touch the stuff.' But this Top-level government official refuses to tell the public what he knows. The big media doesn't want to tell the public either, fearing issues With their advertisers.

It seems that the fallout on the fast food industry May hurt their profit margin. The food producers and restaurants have Been addicting us to their products for years, and now we are paying The price for it. Our children should not be cursed with obesity caused By an addictive food additive.

But what can I do about it? I'm just one voice! What can I do to Stop the poisoning of our children, while our governments are insuring Financial protection for the industry that is poisoning us?

This message is going out to everyone I know in an attempt to tell You the truth that the corporate-owned politicians and media won't tell you.

The best way you can help to save yourself and your children from This drug-induced epidemic is to forward this article to everyone. With any luck, it will circle the globe before politicians can pass the legislation Protecting those who are poisoning us.

The food industry learned a lot from the tobacco industry. Imagine if Big tobacco had a bill like this in place before someone blew the whistle On nicotine? If you are one of the few who can still believe that MSG is good forUs and you don't believe what John Erb has to say, see for yourself.

Go To the National Library of Medicine at www.pubmed.com Type in the Words 'MSG Obese' and read a few of the 115 medical studies that appear. We the public do not want to be rats in one giant experiment, and we Do not approve of food that makes us into a nation of obese, lethargic, Addicted sheep, feeding the food industry's bottom line while waiting for The heart transplant, the diabetic-induced amputation, blindness, or other Obesity-induced, life-threatening disorders.

With your help we can put an end to this poison.. Do your part in Sending this message out by word of mouth, e-mail, or by distribution of This printout to your friends all over the world and stop this 'Slow Poisoning of Mankind' by the packaged food industry.

my 21st birthday

oh boy, i cant believe i am so old. haha.

its like finalllllllly!! key to freedom (err, i hope so!)

i had so much fun on the 24th and the 25th may.

i celebrated the best birthday with him.

=)

when we first met on the 24th may at around noon time, he suprised me with a cute little cookie on a stick from famous amos, with a stick man figure and the words "i love you this much". its called a message lolly.

i went aww. (i had a pretty bad mood before the meeting and this made my frown turn from upside down to a great big smile!)

haha. then next, we went down to vivo.

SHOPPING!

he went crazy trying to find the certain bag that i really loved so much. yes its the arafah's flower bag thingy that made me go ooooooooooooooh. hahaa... so cute when he couldn't find it. (he went to so many places before vivo and i felt real bad but he's so sweet. he wanted to make my bday extra special so he tried his best to get me what i loved the most. sweeeeeeeeeet!)

he also went crazy finding for taka jewellery (he's still insisting on getting something from there). haha. super cute. he so badly wanted to get me a white gold chain. haha. i nvr let him. i felt so special that he gave me so much importance. it was the thought that made me melt.

then we got so hungry. okay its just me who was dying for food. we went to secret receipe at vivo there. wasn't so great compared to the other outlets. had our FAVOURITE indulgence cake (its so sinfully addictive and delicious) as well as their vienna brownie (its not too bad, but if only they served with a nice scoop of vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup topping, it would also be heavenly.) We also had broccoli soup and chicken lasagne. (DONT EAT THE BROCCOLI SOUP FROM VIVO. it tastes kinda weird compared to other outlets.)

we kinda regretted eating at the secret receipe's at vivo. haha. but it was fun to see his face when he found other restaurants which looked more appetising to eat. haha he so wanted to kill me!

anyway, after endless happy hours of window shopping we finaaaaaaaaaaaallllllllllllllllly settled on something that was beautiful.

i swear to god. when i saw that gold chain with butterflies and 2 diamonds, it was like love at first sight. so beautiful. sad that i can take a pic and show u guys. =(

so yea, he got me that pretty chain. one day i show u guys ok?

after that we went shopping again. hahahaha. this time for him. hahahaha. i made him buy this beautiful white long sleeves shirt. swear he looks so nice. so handsome u know? hahahahaha. =X

then we went to cityhall for dinner. ended up at marina square. hahah. we went to cartel to buy cakes. after 9pm the cakes are 50% off! we haddddd to get it. we only ate the cakes later at nite.

we headed just a few stalls down to changing appetite. it was our first time eating steak and i guess that would be the last time. haha steak there was so weird. its hard and not really cooked. hahaha. i tell u when u tell them that u want the steak to be well done it means 75% cooked and the rest uncooked. OMG CAN! serve food raw? how pple eat la? it was disgusting in my point of view. they had pretty great fried calamaris as well as waffles with two generous serving of ice cream. we had chocolate and vanilla. haaha and the best part is their waffles are 50% when u dine from fri - sun! so cool! i guess i would be coming back on the weekends just for their delicious waffles. but just one problem. they have myammar supervisors whose accents will kill u. we had a really hard time la. he couldnt understand his accent and i had to communicate with the myammar man. it was really fustrating. i wonder why the hell pple dun wanna employ normal singaporeans at fnb outlets as managers and supervisors? why must it be foreigners? ok employ foreigners is still ok. but atleast pls la. have some standard. so hard to understand. some more not as if the outlet is ulu. its right at town la. at marina. SIGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i wonder what will happen to all the singaporeans when one fine day all the foreigners were to invade singapore???

anyway back to the topic. after hurrying our late dinner, we had to rush cause it was already 1205am the pple were sort of hinting that they wanna go home by passing us the receipe real soon and even starting to mop the area. but i dun get it. if u close at 1230, u do all that at 1230. not do it before tat cause ur customers will feel damn weird. trust me. its not really polite. its not as if i am not paying any lesser for their service. haiz..

we went straight to flyer to cut my birthday cake after our dinner and haha we had no matchstick neither did we have any lighter since we both dun smoke. and guess what? bf got lighter straight from KEN LIM. YES KEN LIM, THE STRICT SINGAPORE IDOL JUDGE. =)

haha, i feel famous suddenly. even though he seems mean and strict, i tell u he is so nice. after i cut my cake and saboed bf a little and he saboed me back (i took some cake and smashed on his face and he came running after me and sooner or later due to my short and sad legs i had chocolate al over my mouth), KEN LIM WISHED ME HAPPY BIRTHDAY.

haha. yes he said this exactly.

KEN LIM: (raises his hand to say hi) HEY HAPPY BIRTHDAY.
ME: *BLUSHING* thank you.

hahahahahhahah. i feel famous.

=)

ok so after that we walked to esplanade there, went to take the expensive ($3.50) NR bus to go rest at home.

next morning, we went for breakfast at kovan. on the way, i spotted a nicely riped mango on the ground. i looked up and i saw a great big mango tree. it smelled so sweet but sadly, there was an insect in it. =(

breakfast was at an indian shop. only bread and tea for us. we also drank some chinese herbal honey lemon tea drink for digestion. trust me that drink works wonders.

after that it was 80 all the way to bugis and at bugis we walked around and went to the arcade. i wonder why i love going there. a small addiction u may say. it was fun to see pple spend their money away at stupid machines. as long as its not my money, i am happy. =P

after bugis, we walked to tekka and took 147 home. went to take lappy and watched narnia 1. narnia 2 isn't tat great la. 1 is much better. oh ya. i need to say that pple who are selfish are very annnnnnnnnnnnnoying. y can't they share power plugs?? GRRRRRRRRRR. i hate hoggers. pls la. friendster all impt meh? ok impt to u but for more then 3hrs? u gotta be kidding me.

overall, the day was really great.

bye everyone

thanks bf for everything. i love u and i know i am special to u. u treat me way more than how a princess is treated. i really appreciate ur thoughtful actions. i love u so much and i really thank god for an angel like u. i need nothing else in my life but u. thanks for always being there. i will always be there for u too. i love u more than anything. do take care. god will always bless u and i am sure he will bless us together. good luck for ur future. i always wanna be there for u. let's build a great future together. take care dear. thanks once again love.

i forgot to mention

i got the job at RP.

yes. i am going to work in Republic Poly.

haha.

=)

flood me with all ur questions.

pre birthday celebrations

hey there, its one more day for me to turn 21!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YIPPEEEE!

haha. my great bunch of friends (chye hong, chye yun, yizi and siling) gave me the best birthday suprise ever on 23 may. (2 days before the actual day)

thank you babes.

wanna know how the day went? u can only picture wat happen cos i dun have a camera phone anymore. =( wait for the pics and videos ok?

firstly, i met them at cityhall. only chye hong and siling.

had to play a game of sabo. (i had to call pple to sing birthday song for me, i had to find for someone either with the same birthday month/year/age and had to find someone with names having either K/A/L/A at city hall! LOL)

then i was blind folded all the way to esplanade roof garden. there was a beautiful place there which these ladies brought me. so beautiful.

i took off the blind fold and lo and behold!

they used cotton wool and light sticks to do some really pretty decorations. =) there was a cake in the middle together with a bouquet of flowers.

they (yizi and chye yun were there waiting for the three of us to come) started singing happy birthday song , twice (because they thought that the first time was not loud enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

i was so touched, yes and embarrassed too. haha but my frens mah. i love them to bits. lol =)

and something special happened.

we heard fireworks right after the song and yes THERE WAS FIREWORKS. we ran to catch a glimpse of it. it was BEAUTIFUL! it was such a dream come true kinda feeling that I had! =)

i was smiling throughout.

then these pple left my present up on a tree and i swear it looked as if someone ate a packet of rice in styrofoam box, WRAPPED it in plastic bag and tied it high up the tree or something. best part was, they asked me to find my own present. imagine my fate.

haha when i found it, they told me to open and omg. there was this box with our faces printed on it. so beautiful. the picture was from my 19th birthday! =)

as i opened my present, my wonderful friends poured the cotton wool all over me and stuck some light sticks in between, making me some kind of white christmas tree. they were so amazed and happy dolling me up! i felt so itchy. lol.

next, our hungry stomach grumbled and whined for food so we headed down to long john's silver. (i always wanted why they call it long john's silver? why not short james gold? haha opsss)

after dinner, i opened my present and saw beautiful love letters from each of the girls. so sweet. =) haha and inside there was a cute box with a small chain and a pendant with my name engraved on it. BEAUTIFUL!

we ate to our hearts content and headed to eat the cake out of LJS (it was already 1030, couldn't stay in and eat). omg we were so full. we couldn't finish the delicious cake and we had to throw it away. =(

then we headed back to cityhall took the train home. yizi continued her journey back to sengkanag and all of us got down at hougang, got a drink, used the axs machine for damn long (chye yun, wats so cool about the sounds that sam machine makes? you ah!!!!!!!!)

from hougang we walked home and that's how my day went.

thank you guys for the beautiful surprise. love u pple. thanks for the effort. it was really fun! feel guilty that i could not spend much time with u the past few months. promise to make it up to u guys.

and dun forget. YOU GUYS ALSO WILL HAVE BIRTHDAY. I SURE GONNA SABO U GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BE PREPARED.

WAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHHAHAHAHHAHA!
